We loved "hiking" up creeks in the Ohio area as kids with our plastic washbpans in pinks and teal colors.  We'd hunt for craw fish and water bugs and cool patterned rocks.  We never kept anything, but that's how propler examinations of frogs, toads, craw fish and water bugs could be done.  Wore old tennis shoes and were out all day never thinking twice about any harm coming to us...ah those were the days:)
