Sunday
Surely a day of rest?
Well, no actually. More official duties.
This time at Upendo leprosy home. We'd organised a "fun" afternoon for the resident kids. A bit like a Christmas party, but in January. We played against the teenage boys at 5 a side football.
Madness.
They have nothing. Zero. Their parents have been disabled by the disease, but cured. They have no way of living independently. The children haven't had the disease, but have to live with their parents.
Think about it for a moment.
We pay for their education. The nuns take care of the rest, somehow.
I'd never seen a leprosy victim before, that I can remember. Maybe in SE Asia, but I don't remember it. The disease does no real harm if diagnosed and treated (antibiotics, that's all) quickly. If you are a long way from the nearest doctor, and have no money to pay anyway, that's when things get bad.
