A welcome new visitor

I think this is a fieldfare, I'm sure the more knowledgeable will be able to confirm it for me. I first noticed it around lunch time shortly after I had put out some apple. It was enthusiastically defending two pieces of apple it had managed to gather together, against the many blackbirds still in the garden. It stayed out there defending and eating it's apple for more than an hour and I didn't see it eat eat anything else - surely it needs to eat more than apple to survive. I feel very pleased to see this beautiful new visitor to my garden and I hope it calls again :-)
