It takes a little time

I visited this room about oooh errr, maybe 12 years ago.

K and K and Me had a day out.

We spent a lot of time in the prison of the castle re-enacting our favourite scenes from Prisoner Cell Block H - Who remembers that eh?

But this room caught my imagination - this is the Room King James VI, Of Scotland; King James I of Great Britain was born.

Imagine it. All those years ago. 1566... a King. Born in this little room. Probably this little room because it was small to be heated ...

And then three hundred years later; when soldiers were stationed in the castle - H Trotter scored his name into the panelled walls.

In 1818 the Scottish Jewels. Or Honours as they are called were unearthed. Maybe H trotter was one of the soldiers who broke down the wall of the crown room, which had been bricked up in 1603 after the Union of Scotland and England.

I find it amazing that even in 1818 young lads found it acceptable to leave their name - regardless of the location of their graffiti
