Madrid Cathedral

When Spain’s capital moved from Toledo to Madrid, it was a cathedral- less city. Funding, political wrangling, changes of architects, ensuing changes of design, funding, politics ensued over the following centuries. You see the pattern.
Finally in 1993 the cathedral was consecrated by John Paul II.
