Fortunately, whilst the hinges are recessed where attached to the door they were sitting proud on the frame, so I was able to go for the overall easier option of shifting the door up a centimetre and sanding a little bit off the top rather than having to fish the plane out of storage and take a lot off the bottom to stop it noisily scraping the freshly-fitted carpet with every opening.
