Youth Engagement
Today's performances at the festival were devoted in large part to issues youth consider important. Through a variety of media (theater, dance, songs, workshops), young people came together all day to express their fear, worries, and happiness. The issues were far ranging: racism, sexism, homophobia, depression and suicide, parental relations (or lack thereof), and even the fear of acid attacks, depicted by a group of young Indian women dancers.
I'm left impressed by the commitment and depth of thought of these young people: even though they dealt with difficult topics, they emerged more self confident, empathetic, and accepting of one another. These are all good traits to have in today's times...
