Desmond

I spent the day at a Desmond programme. It has been running for 15 years or so to inform people who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

I was identified some 4 years ago but with pressures of work never quite managed to attend, although I have been regularly seen by my practice nurse.

The opportunity to attend today arose and I found it very informative. It reaffirmed what I have been doing but also provided additional pointers. As well as setting the identification of type 2 diabetes in context and highlighting that it can be managed over time and that each individual has to respond in their own way,

A very useful programme and if you find yourself being offered it do take it up sooner rather than later. I learned a number of new things.

I also met up with a former colleague from the Scottish Government who has more issues to deal with than I do. But was still positive about managing things.

So a great offer from the NHS.

2PSs.
1. We know that the stomach is not located there on the body but it was helpful to place it and other organs where they are to illustrate the process of the body dealing with glucose.
2. Our son returned ahead of time from India, full of stories and providing potential blips over the coming days.
