Traces of the wounded heron
i've known the heron for about a year. he uses to stand in the field where i come by on my morning walks. i see him - and i want to believe he sees me.
today, while walking the dogs, we came past these traces and here's the story i want to believe about the traces :
he wanted to land there - as usual. but the day befor yesterday, rain fell onto the snow and created like a hard cardboard cover on top of the layer. more snow fell last night. the heron hurt his fragile legs as the landed in the hardened snow and "printed" the feathers of his huge wings into the soft layer of snow.
it made me quite emotional as i imagined the pain this really tall bird may have experienced.
a friend of mine helped me with the photo, since my camera got a little confused with all the white ;))
thanks willy:)
