The American Dream 2012

This was a superb and long day. We drove the tank aka secret service car Suburban into NYC. well my brother drove it and very well. We eventually found a decent place to park and set off on our adventure in NYC, train ride to 5th Avenue and the Apple store! While the dad, bro and I used the free wifi mum waited outside listening to a brilliant singer on the street.

Post Apple it was time for another toy store, FAO Swartchz - loved it and even bought myself a Blue Democratic Donkey! Then off to lunch with some real New York Cheesecake in a small place near Rockafella Centre. Then it was time to hit up CENTRAL PARK! Getting off the train right under the Dakota Building, which was handy as our purpose was to visit Strawberry Fields as Mum's never been to the park and was Lennon fan. We found some interesting characters who were playing Lennon songs, mostly well, and others telling the story of his life, and death.

Then it was onward in our brisk day, to Bethesda Fountain and Literary walk before heading downtown to the Freedom Tower and museum. We as a family have seen Ground Zero grow since Nov 2001 - the first time we visited the states post 9/11 (but not our first time in the states) I must say I feel its a very fitting tribute, usually the yanks take things way too far, but I don't feel that way about the site, I feel its fitting.

Back to Times Square and towards the car for a wonderful dinner, post meal and walking back to the car, we noticed a large crowd gathering across the street, then noticed the police stop the traffic on the one way street that our car park was on. We stopped too and noticed everyone gathering around a Stage Door. The play featured Richard Schiff and Al Pacino - we waited! We saw them both from across the street, then they both came over, spoke to very well dressed people near us post press and autograph signing, then just walked off down the road! They didn't even get in cars! Awesome!

We drove home, exhausted but had a superb family day! One never to forget!
