Journeyman

All in the Name of Progress

Went back in time and visited the sight of the Erskine Ferry where I used to spend my long hot summers as a child, watching people and their cars being transported across the River Clyde from Erskine to Old Kilpatrick , the disused ferry ramp is in the background, it was replaced by a bridge in 1971.

The area used to be excessively busy with street musicians entertaining the long queues of cars full of families going on their summer holidays, waiting to board the ferry, desperate to complete the five minute crossing.

Like many childhood memories of the past, the area looks miserable and empty now, sadly the lifebelt is used more for people throwing themselves off the bridge.

"Don't pay the ferryman, don't even fix a price, don't pay the ferryman, until he gets you to the other side"...
