Hyde Park Barracks - installation by Jonathan Jone
Today I went to Hyde Park Barracks which has been revamped into a new museum. I felt that what it had become would be more suitable for school groups, so my choice was to wander through the grounds which were the site of a Jonathan Jones installation. He's an indigenous artist whose artwork was red stones all over the extensive courtyard area with white stones depicting both emu feet and prisoners' arrows. So it's a mono ready-made.
It's still in good shape but it's ephemeral. I was light footed through the area so as not to disrupt but the artist accepts that it will change. It really was quite beautiful and it depends on the viewer looking down but as one looks into the distance it gains perspective. Close up or distant views, it works.
