Subtle Sign of Spring

There are over 300 Species of Bees native to Florida, 29 of which are endemic (found only in the state). This one is most likely in the genus Andrena or perhaps Colletes. Not easy to tell and I'm certainly no expert!  They are ground-nesting bees, are sometimes called 'mining bees' and are equipped with extra hairy legs for collecting pollen. This is evident in my photo. These little workers are among some of the first bees to fly in the spring and true to form they are showing up in our yard. They don't live in a 'hive', don't make honey and probably won't sting! (my kind of bee) and they are serious crop pollinators, especially fruiting shrubs and trees.
This photo was taken with my Olympus 60mm dedicated macro lens combined with a 10mm Kenko Extension Tube.
