Moving Into The Unknown

George

George is a quiet man.  A note-taker, he was busy writing in his journal for much of our conversation.  I learned that George has lived on the streets for nearly two years and has no hope for getting into a shelter.  "They don't want me," he said.  "Too much."

His pen quit working while we talked and George was pleased that I had a replacement pen to offer.  It didn't seem to entirely meet his expectations, but he said it would work.  I fully understand - the pen is a mighty tool and by the looks of George's notebook, he stayed pretty busy writing most of the time.  He tried to explain some of the entries in his journal, but I confess that I did not follow it all.

What can we offer the folks like George in our country?  He is so clearly in need of assistance, yet told me no one has talked with him for months.  George lives, breaths and once had a family.  He's 64 years old and told me he's tired, cold and has pneumonia.  What can we offer?
