Tongland Abbey

Today's the day ………………………. for a lecture

Attended a lecture in Dumfries this evening given by Dr David Devereux for the Dumfriesshire & Galloway Natural History and Antiquarian Society.

It was all about the trial excavations at Tongland Abbey that have taken place between 2016 - 2019 - and the fascinating evidence that has slowly revealed itself as the digging has progressed.  Readers of this journal will know how much I enjoyed being part of it all last summer.  And although he didn't name it as such, it was very good to see Sheila's Stone featuring centre stage at one point! 

David is applying for funding which would mean that it could go ahead for one last year in 2020.  Fingers crossed that he is successful ………………..
