Life in Laois

A Friendly Face

Its that time of year where horseowners (particularly in this part of the world) begin to wonder why they want a horse at all. The temptation is to sit by the fire and listen to the rain and wind outside.

But the horses still need to be fed. We face the endless rain, the bottomless mud, the still damp coat from the last outing, and the leaky wellies, morning and evening. EVERY DAY! Are we mad? Possibly, yes!

The storms just seem to come at weekends, its always dark, its so cold, numb fingers, dry skin. Why are we doing this? Its difficult to even get time in the saddle. "Maybe i should get a sensible hobby" becomes a regular thought.

But when you get to the stables, and see those friendly faces, and hear the soft whinnies, the memories of sunny days and hours spent in the saddle begin to flood back and you remember exactly why you have them.

They are worth every moment!
