Just emerged monarch caterpillar
This is a monarch caterpillar that has just emerged from its egg casing and has just eaten it. next to it is another egg which will hatch very soon as you can see by the shape of the egg. The Butterfly that I did the sequence shots of was released on the this plant and laid its eggs here too. so these are the second generation. There are so many eggs that the three plants may not be able to adequately supply all the caterpillars with food.
