Coffee Sundays
Today was spent going on a fabulous run, people are already skinny dipping in the isar. I listened to lots of desert island discs: Emily Eavis and Jared Diamond. Then Johannes beat me at table tennis, and I joined some friends in a cafe where my house mate Sam works.
I came home to find Rory still revising his presentation for the following morning in from of the whole dept (100 or so people!). He wanted more prep time so I found an excuse to watch 1917 at the cinema with Theo and Phillip. I was left feeling emotionally raw. I knew I should have expected it, but I’d heard a lot about the sound effects being very dramatic and wasn’t ready for the internal emptiness.
When I arrived home, Rory was gone. One hour. Almost two hours. The film may have contributed, but I became quite restless and worried that it was 11.30 and there was no explanation or text and calls weren’t going through. That meant his phone also wouldn’t be playing music, so why would he be out in the cold for so long? Knowing he had a big presentation the next day and must be anxious, I set off on my bike to the isar where I presumed he must be. He wasn’t. Chris joined the search team, and we figured he must be hungry and in McDonald’s. He wasn’t. I think with everything in the news we’d become quite worried. It turned out he was practicing his presentation in the Oktoberfest platz and we were glad to find him in good spirits ready for the presentation!
