I’m holding the front page
One of the things about being married nearly fifty years is that you can accumulate an awful lot of stuff, and neither of you can remember how you acquired it.
Mr. Beewatcher this morning produced a bag of reprints of old copies of the Daily Telegraph, and both of us swear we’ve never seen it before. The bag has the name of a local bookshop that disappeared years ago, so maybe they were bought in a closing-down sale. We’ll never know.
They’re fascinating to read though, and the oldest-dated one relates to Edward VIII’s abdication. Not front-page news, because at that time the page was given over to small ads. Have a look at the ones in the extra. It really was a different world in 1938.
