It's colder than it looks

Another week and the Ontario government forces another week of rotating school strikes on us. Quite sad to see how the teachers are having to fight to protect the more vulnerable students - but am very glad they are. A quick glance down south and across the pond provides a salutary lesson in what happens when education is not protected. The first thing to go is critical thinking. I don't care whether you are left-wing, right-wing or centre in politics, but if you haven't thought about what you believe in, you get everything you deserve. The ability to reflect and decide on what is being said is becoming a lost art.

Fortunately, the next generation is here to save us. And having jumped on a glacier in an attempt to bear his wily--albeit gimpish--father to the car, Ottawacker Jr is learning another of life's aphoristic lessons: look before you leap.

He can skate better than me though.
