Be Prepared.
Mum and I were determined to visit Hebden Bridge this morning to support the community stretched to breaking point by the floods. We drove through Mytholmroyd to get there which is in a complete state of devastation. Houses, shops, businesses completely empty. Belongings by the road side and new, supercharged flood barriers in place.
Hebden Bridge was incredibly quiet; hardly surprising given the torrential rain and forecast of impending doom. The town was a mixture of empty shells of buildings trying to piece things back together after last weekend and those moving everything to height to avoid further damage should the flood waters arrive. My extra shows the flood gate in place in front of one of the shops.
It's now Saturday evening and so far so good...I think I speak for everybody in saying I really hope it stays that way. It was really sad to see such a wonderful little town in such a sorry state.
The community of Hebden Bridge is very special and given time this message on the window of Blazing Saddles will, hopefully, be proven to be true.
