Thoughts of Love
When I was much younger there used to be an air of anonymity surrounding Valentines’ Day - the desire for impending amour with the person of your dreams might have been the same, yet today there seems to an entire new emphasis . . . In the shape of celebrating passion seemingly being fed by commercialism.
Go into any shop today and you’ll find loads of ways of declaring your love, but it all has a price tag, just as Christmas, Mothers’ Day and Easter .
Cannot claim to be totally resistant though. Yesterday and today found me pondering the aisles where Valentine goodies were on offer, along with loads of other shoppers. In my case I was seeking a treat for eating at home – you know the theme “Dine in for two for £20” or whatever price is fixed.
Must say I quickly found something to turn the taste buds . . . And by splitting deals, I could add oysters and bubbly!
Never was the idea of lavishing so much attention seemingly ever possible in the days of my youth. But then perhaps I was never sufficiently adventurous to consider anything more than a simple card with hearts emblazoned on the front!
