La Cotinière - Île d’Oléron

Mrs SoL has already blipped her version of events on this day (see Frenchtoast). After dragging various French culinary phrases from my brain to help out our favourite restaurant owners, we went to a nearby town. It was closed. Yes, pretty much completely. In summer, La Cotinière is a busy tourist hub, with fishing, food, jet-skiing and all manner of activities. This day, we struggled to find anything open. There were a few businesses undergoing work in prep for summer. Nonetheless, we persevered and found what looked like a pizza place. Turned out to be a nice restaurant (only one open in town) feeding the locals. I had grilled cuttlefish in a garlic sauce and chips/salad, washed down by a local rosé. Very nice indeed. Then, home to lie down and help my back recover slowly.
