Redshank?

I walked down to see the high tide at Grange this lunchtime.  It was forecast as a 10.18m spring tide but I think the winds had caused a surge and the water was near to prom level.  Definitely Grange-on-Sea rather than Grange-over-Sands today!

Whilst on the prom I noticed this bird swimming in the choppy waters.  It looks like a redshank to me but I have never before seen one swimming and, indeed, I didn't know they could.  Does anyone agree with my id or have any other suggestions?
