Something Fishy About This!

Interesting day today with a lot on the 'To Do' list and seemingly not enough hours to accomplish them all, given office timings and the like!

Not to worry...the intentions were there and as they say...a journey begins with a single step!!...so GK and I headed out in her illustrious Volvo! I get to drive it too if there's no parking to be had...so down at the municipality offices, I deposited her and went 'driveabout' to the post office and then back to pick her up!

Off to the hospital on the far side of the city (its 'on the Far Side in other ways too!) beating the traffic, but not the parking dilemma, so once more GK got deposited and I sat it out in said Volvo to allay any fines that might be imminent if left unattended!

It took forever but, tiring of the endless drum beat radio station that was on, I tuned into 103.8 and listened to a fascinating chat with a man who had been in Dubai for 43 years and had just published a book!! 'From Pearls to Oil' by David Herd was the title!! I think it will make fascinating reading....he had some wonderful anecdotes to relate and a very 'likeable' sense of humour....which hopefully will come out in his musings. The interview ing pair were amazed at the time he'd been in the land and I thought....they haven't met GK yet...who could give him a few years!

Being the fishy side of town...decided we'd been too delayed too to accomplish anything else but a nap later....so visited one of our favourite haunts...the fruit, veg and fish markets! Always a delight but wish I could have added the smells!!

The porters with their barrows, the vendors with their wares and the fish with their destinies all mapped out. Lobsters, King prawns, Crabs and Snapper....not to mention, squid and cuttlefish, shark and Hammour....anything that moves below the waters of the Gulf is fair game for the stalls over here....for this nation of seafood lovers....and its so fresh...the only fishy smell is that of the dried fish stands!! They sell mainly to the Dhow travellers because they have no refrigeration on board as they travel...so all is dried or mega fresh....like the goat tethered to the main mast, fed and watered till mid voyage, then recycled in a most delectable curry!!! Michael Palin found that the hardest part of his 'Around the World in 80 Days'!!
