SPATS

It was stormy through the night. The wind roared and the rain lashed against the windows.  And Lily was unsettled.  She woke me up a few times throughout the night with her crying.  It was slightly calmer later in the morning and Lily settled so I took the opportunity to have a lie in. When I got up and went into the bathroom I found Lily curled up in a bath mat - see Extra shot.

I have had a lazy day - didn't fancy going out as it was still rainy and windy for most of the day. I ventured into one of the spare rooms to do a bit of sorting out.  Got rid of a lot of old paperwork. Also a few of the things which Neil has left here.  I have given up asking him if he wants any of his stuff - I'm now making " executive decisions " and getting rid of anything I think needs to go.

I also came across the spats in my blip shot. Still in their original box.   Bit of a random find.  I'm guessing they belonged to my late father in law.  A real blast from the past.

Spats - also known as spatterdashes, or spatter guards are a type of classic footwear accessory for outdoor wear, covering the instep and the ankle. Spats are distinct from gaiters, which are garments worn over the lower trouser leg as well as the shoe.  They were worn by men in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  Made of white cloth, grey or brown felt material spats buttoned around the ankle. Their intended practical purpose was to protect shoes and socks from mud or rain but also served as a feature of stylish dress in accordance with the fashions of the period.They fell out of frequent use during the 1920s.
