Bye Bye Birdie

My Dear Princess and Dear Fellow,

The thing that makes me saddest about leaving Aurora is leaving my little bird flock.

I'm sure they'll be fine once we've gone. They are birds, after all. They will disperse and get food from our neighbours and the tourists in town. But I've enjoyed watching them, so much. Every day, flocking in the big tree out the back, peering in our windows to see if there's any food going.

I love watching the chicks flapping their stubby little wings to get fed, and I love the cheeky blackbirds, sitting on the balcony rail with their heads cocked. Then there's those special occasions when kaka or waxeyes or fantails come to visit.

Of course, there will be birds in Paraparaumu. A lot of them, in fact. It's a jungle out back of our place. So it is strange to say it, but I'm going to miss THESE birds.

Perhaps they will flap up the coast and join me.

S.
