Nicky and her Nikon

Saying goodbye

I woke up feeling slightly better than yesterday, despite having a terrible night's sleep.

Poor Xena had another on lead walk again, she is not coughing much but the vet recommended avoiding other dogs for a 2 week period. I am feeling very sad to leave her, in fact I almost don't feel like going away - non dog lovers will not understand this!

L the house/dog sitter arrives this evening, and we are leaving home at about 7.30pm for our 10pm flight. We have an awful journey ahead of us - a 14.5 hour flight to Santiago, then a 5.5 hour wait at the airport before we take our connecting flight to Punta Arenas - this is another 4.5 hour flight. We stay overnight in Punta Arenas before our 5 hour car journey the next morning to Torres del Paine in Patagonia. I suppose one cannot expect to get to such far flung places without many hours travelling! I am sure it will be worth it, the mountains there look quite spectacular. We have 4 nights there, hiking in the mountains, before going to Antarctica.

I am hoping to have good wifi in Patagonia so I can still post photos, but I know that in Antarctica although we do have wifi it is not strong enough to upload photos - but good enough for Gavin to be in daily contact with the office! I also won't have time to comment on journals.

Time to close the suitcases and hopefully watch some of the rugby match.
