Letterbox
A bank statement, an enticement to new credit card, a bit of direct mail and a party political leaflet, a takeaway menu and a leaflet from a joiner. That's the norm on a daily basis to pop through this letterbox. And it could be reduced further with online banking and a chat with MOPS.
But for most of December, this letterbox clanged with Christmas cards, from friends and family and from neighbours who don't know my name. It was a happier time for the humble bit of metal and it enjoyed being pushed by postman and neighbour.
But that was then. And save for the months with birthdays, it's December before it'll see more action. While my work email strains at around 50 a day, my house letterbox carries on, enjoying its retirement and hoping the next eleven months pass quickly.
