Bismillah in The Cake Tin

My Dear Princess and Dear Fellows,

Tonight we went to see Queen + Adam Lambert at the Sky Stadium in Wellington.

If you did not know, it is a large circular metallic structure, locally known as "The Cake Tin".

It is a shame I didn't go and see them back in the day. I remember lots of my mates going to see them on the "Kind of Magic" tour. But Queen was the band that your MUM liked. And I was too cool.

So I didn't go.

This was me making up for that, kind of. Adam Lambert was actually excellent as stand-in Freddie. Although he does start the concert by apologising for not being Freddie and telling us that he was a fan too. Which is really very sweet and nice.

As you might imagine, the band were amazing and ran through all of their greatest hits. There was a long and dull guitar solo, but you can't begrudge Brian May. He's been doing this for 50 years.

If you've seen "Bohemian Rhapsody" you'll find it rather sweet that Brian now sings "Love of My Life" to the crowd, but they project Freddie singing along with him at the end and on the screens they appear to reach out to each other and touch hands before Freddie turns his back and disappears off into the dark.

John Deacon wasn't there, but Brian was accompanied by Roger Taylor, the first man I ever fancied in a pop video. I'm still very confused by him in "I Want To Break Free". Which they performed. Thankfully, not in drag.

Obviously we all sang along and along and along all night. I was quite hoarse afterward.

S.
