Early start

Ian headed off to Liverpool so it was an early start so I could drop him at the station.

It meant I got into work at the crack of dawn so I took advantage of the early start and cleared a corner of the office that is due some work over the weekend. The alcove will soon be no more as the wall is due a bashing about and skimming over.

I also attended a lecture at a hotel in town, organised by our Centre of Social Mobility. It  was all about irrational behaviours in HE and based on the speakers work with WP youngsters who self select out of HE with their decisions written off as irrational as they don’t fit with conventional wisdom and the economic narrative.

It also extended into issues such as league tables and how we are all slaves to them in HE Stockholm Syndrome, and how academia is less accessible to those from a WP background because of casualisation of contracts and fixed term contracts.
