Looking out ...
... across Dunmanus Bay. It's a a long skinny inlet about 23 km long and between 1.3 and 6.5km wide, separating the Sheep's Head and Mizen Peninsulas. There are lots of little coves and inlets and the odd island. It is deep and rocky with very clear water. No sandy beaches but great for swimming, today's temperature is 9C. The water is very salty and uber buoyant. The sea is full of pollock, wrasse and bass. and sea urchins, mussels, scallops and seaweeds are harvested. Bird life is rich - the usual suspects with some exotic visitors including little egrets and northern divers. A swell today with the light just breaking through the clouds. And there is a small fishing boat hard at work.
We can hear it from our house, and get a quick glimpse if you stand on a certain rock at the back but it's a quick run through two fields to get there. Ever changing and always wonderful.
