Venice in the rain

We set out at 0645 this morning towards St Mark's Square. It must have rained all night because we arrived to find that the square was flooded. The reflections were stunning.

It was difficult to photograph the scene because there are large areas fenced off while staging is erected for the Carnival. Just to the right of this image there was a large brown panel so I had to compose as you see.

It has gone on raining all day. We've had a good time but constant rain is tiring for photographers. There are at least lots of colourful umbrellas around the city.

At coffee time, I had the best hot chocolate in the world. At lunchtime I ate two of the gorgeous over filled sandwiches you find here, and a bitter spritzer with a large olive on a stick.
