More Celtic Connecting...
Picking up the story from yesterday....
Essentially, we dodged the rain, now persisting-it down, by eating our way slowly westwards, via the University Cafe for gingerbread gelato, to the Grosvenor Cinema, watched the totally pleasing ‘David Copperfield’ then had noodles in Ramen-Dayo.
A hop on the subway and we were back at the Flower Market to see ‘Bonny LightHorseman’.
Anais Mitchell is a fave of ours and after the spectacular success of her musical ‘Hadestown’ this is her new project playing within a band of eminent American musicians.
Really, really enjoyed the new music, but speaking just for me, the greatest pleasure was Anais’ solo section.
She’s an outstanding songsmith with a keen interest in weaving traditional and contemporary themes, her voice has a smooth, bird-like quality, strong and fragile simultaneously. Her album ‘Child Ballads’ is one I never tire of, providing comfort always.
Of course, as we left the FlowerMarket, the rain eased. We found Betty, WonderA’s stoic little wagon...she’d been holed up in some back street car park through the long wet day and night- and didn’t want to start.
Not wishing to spend another night of arid AirB&B’ing, we slowly teased her into submission and flew home to Portobello.
Thank you Celtic Connections, we had a wonderful adventure.
