better
Yesterday was lousy, so lousy that I ordered comfort food. Karen recognized it as comfort food and she and Sam gave me a lovely greeting when I got home.
Today was better.
We are living through an extremely important moment in American history.
Ages ago I made a video of my grandmother. She told me about her life, her first and second husbands, her parents, and her children. It was one of the best decisions I've made.
She was directly impacted by WWII. The bombing of Pearl Harbor meant her husband, who had been drafted, would not be getting out of the military. He was MIA without ever having met his daughter in person.
I was a little surprised that some of the other major world events, like Jews trying to escape into the US and being turned away and the Civil Rights movement, weren't part of the story - but they didn't directly impact her life and they didn't have the communications we have now. Now I am living through a major moment in American history and, except for some minor communications with some Representatives and Senators, it isn't part of my life story. I'm just trying to get through my days and succeed at my new job. I understand that, given my circumstances, getting and keeping this job is a major accomplishment that doesn't leave much left over, but it is weird.
