Perspective...

I had a lovely time with the mum of one of my pupils this morning. One who is a real inspiration to me for all she has done to make sure her daughter receives all she is entitled to and more. I’m also so pleased to have been with her at the start of the long journey.

I took the longer walk home and had many thoughts looking back on my teaching days. So much to be grateful for. Also time to put some other things into perspective.

It’s been a few days of such thoughts as we’ve watched coverage of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and Holocaust Memorial Day. Tonight we’ve watched The Windermere Project which brought children to England from the war camps and sought to rebuild their lives, bodies and souls.

And tonight, just now, we’ve heard that a friend from the days our boys were at school and Boys Brigade together, has died. A week ago he went into sudden heart failure. After over an hour without oxygen his family were told he was brain dead. On Tuesday morning his life support was turned off. Only this evening did his heart stop beating. Our prayers are with his family. Words are hard to find. We know John is now with God, and his family will be comforted.
