The Jolly Ostler
This smartly dressed gentleman resides in an Ostler Box which is built into the wall of the Kings Arms pub in Shoreham village, Kent.
Tradition has that an Ostler would attend to customers horses, and messages or a tankard of ale would be passed through the window.
This afternoon we had a circular walk around Shoreham. There are 58 listed buildings in the village and the individual styles and architecture of the houses are very interesting and varied.
My extra is one of the restored houses in Mill Lane, which goes down to the River Darent. It is listed as Mill Lane Cottages, a late mediaeval hall house.
