On the Go

This serene tulip, rising above the others at the Alm Hill Farm booth at the Bellingham Farmers Market first monthly winter market, is the antithesis of what my day was like.

Don't get me wrong -- it was a very good day, but a busier one than usual! After taking photos and doing some shopping at the farmers' market this morning, I had about an hour at home, during which I edited my 127 photos down to 20 and sent them to the market's executive director. She posted them to the market's Facebook page (a public one) in a slide show, if you'd like to see them.

Next Phil and I headed out for ArtistAnnie's 70th birthday party. We had a great time talking with her interesting friends and family, trying out Ann's newest cameras, borrowing books from the extensive library that she and her husband Arvin have, and enjoying some of the delicious food and drink -- too many choices to try a bite of everything!

On our way home, we stopped at our local Apple store. I'd been longing to get my hands on a real iPad mini and check out the latest laptops, and Phil wanted to buy an Apple TV -- which isn't actually a TV. I don't understand it, but as I very rarely watch TV, it doesn't matter!

The iPad mini, on the other hand... yes, I want one! It would be great for travel, and I'd use it often here as a virtual cookbook and stop making paper copies of recipes I find online. It would also be a great way to take several books on vacation, without adding extra weight to my bag.

But before I buy an iPad mini, I need to replace my 15-inch MacBook Pro. It will be six years old this summer -- old for a computer -- and has had lots of use, and over the past year, some problems. I'm seriously considering a 13-inch MacBook Pro with retina display, but it's going to be a challenge for me to switch to a new computer, because I'll have to move up three operating systems from the one I'm on now, use a different email program, and much more. I have very limited technical knowledge -- and don't like change!

We ended our day with a stop at ManPies to pick up ready-to-eat meat pies for supper, comfort food for a cold, foggy evening. A good day indeed!
