One of millions

The Brown-veined White (Belenois aurota) butterfly breeds in the Karoo and Northern Cape during the summer months in its host, the Shepherd Tree (Boscia albitrunca).

They emigrate in their millions in a north-easterly direction across the country, instinctively to Somalia, where the tree is also found.

It is a fantastic sight to see them all fly across the suburbs and the open grasslands at this time of the year.
