The Ironmaster
I'm loving Blipfoto. It's making me look at things in a different way.
I was in Fareham Town today and passed many sculptures that I'd seen before. I knew they were connected to a man called Henry Cort and I knew there was a school and road in the town named after him. So today I thought I'd find out a little more about him.
He was an 18th century pioneer in the iron industry, making improvements to the process of iron making. He developed some of his ideas at the Fontley works on the outskirts of Fareham.
Fifty years after Cort's death, The Times of London lauded him as "the father of the iron trade'.
The few photos I've posted are a selection of the Henry Cort Sculpture Park. As I was selecting them I now realised why the pub in the background of one of the extras Is called The Ironmaster!
