Pedestrian Bridge over the tracks

The railway runs between Wenatchee's downtown and the riverfront. Back in the early days of the city, the river was not for recreating, for living on, or really for enjoying. The river was an active commerce hub with paddle boats running up and down the Columbia River. That has changed now with lovely parks and restaurants along the river.

Our town really was built by the railroaders who helped develop a canal system to irrigate crops of apples. In the early 1900s, with irrigation water, the apple industry took off and the railroad was there to carry the apples to Seattle and beyond.

The pedestrian bridge is great for helping one walk over the railroad track because the trains can be quite long and really stop traffic. Today, that was the case with us.

Dan and I went to the Memorial Service for our neighbor, who died just after his 95th birthday. We decided to park down by the river and walk up to the Museum & Cultural Center where the memorial was held. It was a lovely memorial to a great guy. As an aside, Don married a woman with 6 kids when he was 67 years old. He raised those kids and three others. A loving family man, a navy man and a man with great patience and a great smile. 

Anyway, as we walked back to the car, a very long train was blocking our path. Not wanting to walk to the pedestrian bridge, we ducked into a brewery and had a pint and toasted Don because we knew the wait would be lengthy. The bartender says that many people stop in to wait out the train. Great location for that.

Finished our pint and grabbed this Blip as we walked across the tracks. The photo of the cider is my Extra Photo. I almost used it for my Blip because I thought the colors were quite pleasing.
