a lifetime burning

Northern Light

A portrait of Cathy taken in natural light.

Friday night was our last night in the log cabin.  As midnight approached Pete and I agreed that we should use the hot tub one last time.  The girls couldn't be persuaded to join us.  Possibly it was the fact that it was -5C, and almost certainly the very strong North Westerly gale had something to do with it.  Still, Pete I braved the conditions and spent a very convivial 30 minutes in the tub at 39.5C soaking away the aches of the day, whilst recapping on the high points of the trip.

When we came to get out, there had been a good inch of snow, and we had some trouble finding our flip flops before we were able to walk back to the cabin...

Fortunately for us, there was not that much snow overnight after all, although the main road back to Reykjavik was closed due to strong winds and drifting snow we were able to detour without too much trouble.  How blasé we have become about driving in these conditions!

After lunch in Reykjavik's Old Harbour area we spent some time in the photography museum which was fascinating and a tremendous resource.  This was followed by a trip to the pool for our last Icelandic swim of this trip.  We will really miss the pools.

Home tomorrow.
