The Village Hall
Most UK villages have a community hall where local people can get together for a variety of activities.
Our village hall is a registered charity and first opened its doors for hire in 1958. The land on which the hall was built was donated for this purpose in 1948 by Mrs K Wood, to form a permanent memorial to the late Jack Wood (1887-1940).
Today was the village hall open day. Local organisations had information stalls and there were quite a few display boards of historical photos.
We bought an interesting book about one of the Victorian fruit and herb growers. It is one of a series of local books written by Dr Susan Pittman, a local historian. It is full of wonderful old photos and illustrations. I am looking forward to reading it and finding out more about the village where we live.
