Mon Amie Française
I used to have French lessons with Valerie and through her met her lovely mother, Genevieve.
I spent quite a bit of time with her when she came to Australia several years ago and we have visited her twice on her farm in France.
We get on very well, the only problem being she speaks little English and my schoolgirl French is very rusty. I haven't practised at all since our last visit to France three and a half years ago.
But somehow we manage to communicate surprisingly well. I suppose when two women want to chat they will achieve it somehow.
She came for lunch and we plan another get together before she returns home.
This evening there was a meeting for the Megalong community to debrief after the fires. Not many in the valley were too badly affected but it was encouraging to see the support being offered from federal and state government and the local council with quite a few representatives there to answer questions and gather feedback.
Considering the magnitude of the events I think it has all been handled pretty well and the learning experience will hopefully assist with even more improvements next time.
