Behind the scenes

Edinburgh’s network of lanes to serve the grand houses facing the prestigious thoroughfares are now desirable residences in their own right.

Today began with a balmy beach run and ended with a civilised pint, in a new town basement bar, with one of my oldest friends.

In between I chaired one video call from home and two face to face meetings in town.
