No backburn here!!
Of course we always try to look for the bright side of situations but at the moment in Australia it's very hard to be happy about what has happened over the past couple of months. Apart from the fires we are now faced with the dramatic consequences of the drought. For the first time since I have been living at Wombat Hollow I am watching the bush die in front of my eyes. I mentioned this the other day when I had walked out to Wombat Rock for the first time since the fire emergency had started in the Blue Mountains. I have a very clever person coming out to visit me in the near future and I will leave it to the scientist to tell me what he thinks is happening to many of the species.
When I read reports from people who can only look on the bright side of things and try to paint a "Business as Usual" summary of events, I usually end up finding it impossible because of the tears I'm shedding. The tears are for the millions of creatures great and small who have perished in the fires and from the drought. I shed tears for the Rural Fire volunteers and rescue workers who I have spoken to first hand who are traumatised beyond belief from hearing the screams of the animals as they die in great pain and having to wait with the animals until a qualified person can come and put the beautiful creatures out of their pain and suffering. This type of footage is far too terrible and graphic to ever be shown on television, but how on earth do these wonderful volunteers recover from such trauma.
I am one person who does believe in the fact that our climate is changing and I saw a post on social media recently that really put things in perspective. It said......
If the people who believe in climate change are wrong we will just end up with a cleaner planet, and if the people who believe in climate change are right we will all end up dying.
I know which version of this I would prefer. Let's just pray the world wakes up in time!!
