Same Old Same Old, Ruins

We were up far too early for our 7am trip to Ek Balam this morning, I tried to sleep as the minibus was speeding through inland but was only able to keep my eyes shut. Our final excursion was to some Mayan Ruins only recently discovered in the 1970s and restored in the 1990s. The jungle takes over ruins so that they are covered completely and the only way to tell is by seeing the tree level rise. The land is almost completely flat apart from mounds of trees. Apparently they suspect there many new ruins still to find! Anyway Ek Balam is a smaller scale to the other two ruins we have been to, although there was this finely sculptured building half way up the temple that we could view. After a couple of hours, we zoomed back to base.

The extra has photos of me paddling with the fishes using my legs as hidey places (there must have been at least 10 tropical fish swimming away in the beaches), Jeff Tweedy's solo set and him performing with his 2 sons, Wilco's John and Nels hosting a tequila tasting session, the evening sets of Kamasi Washington and Dr. Dog both of whom I had not heard of before planning this trip. Finally, the SkyBlueSky instant photo booth suffered a visit from Mrs C and myself again!
