A father's pride
This letter was written by Lorna's father to her paternal grandmother on 11th December 1932. It charts the events leading up to Lorna's first visit to Girton College to take the scholarship exam on Saturday 10th December 1932, and her return home afterwards.
It sounds like Lorna had a busy week. From this letter it looks like she collected prizes at the school prize-giving ceremony on the Wednesday evening, travelled to Cambridge on Thursday, performed in interviews on Friday, and on Saturday took the Advanced English exam then caught the train home to Sheffield. It's also interesting to read of her initial disappointment regarding the architecture of Girton.
I think that we can conclude from the contents of this letter that Lorna's father was very proud of his daughter's achievements. We also learn a little about Lorna's mother here too.
