Sunny Side Up
Finally after weeks of the river being 'red flagged' the water levels have gone down enough to row .... and then we get the snow. The water temperature is 3.5 degrees - not weather for capsizing that's for sure. Rowers are a hardy lot though especially with the promise of a bacon buttie and a snowball fight afterwards.
I don't know what the sunglasses logic is - who can know what goes on in the mind of 13 and 14 year old boys (and does anyone really want to know?). The river was surprisingly busy with plenty of college eights out. For us 'bankriders' the towpath was fairly treacherous, more than one cyclist came off on the compacted and frozen snow that turned it into an ice rink. I put on the walking boots and after helping shovel snow from the launch area, abandoned my bike and did 'bankwalking' instead.
Afterwards this crew challenged the older boys to a snowball fight and did some spectacular and rather scary jumping slides down the steep snowy banks.
Heads races at 7.30am and then Isis Winter League in the afternoon tomorrow so expect more snowy rowing pictures tomorrow.
