2020 Saturday — Sunrise & Sunset

My top photo is early this Saturday morning about 6:40 as we were leaving California’s Central Coast. The photo below is 5:20 this evening from our front porch at our SoCal home. Both were gorgeous.

It was 3 weeks ago today, December 28, that we made the journey going north (the opposite direction) to our place in Cayucos on the Central Coast. We have enjoyed a lovely 3 weeks.

I think our driving time today was just more than 4 hours (I forgot to turn off the stopwatch on my phone when we arrived, so I’m not sure). We stopped 4 times so that the pups or us or both could use the facilities (well, actually the dogs use the lawn). The older we get, the more often we need to stop.

Getting back to our SoCal home is interesting. We have 3 pups and 1 is completely blind. So it must be confusing for him, but by bedtime this evening, I think he had acclimated to the surroundings and was remembering the pattern or layout of this house. I do know this place is easier for him because he does not have to climb stairs to get inside the house. At the Central Coast house, thankfully, the backyard is up behind our second story living quarters because the house was built up against a hill.

This SoCal house is rather in a shambles at the moment because we’re getting ready to do more improvements to this place. Next week new windows are being installed (hooray!). The current windows are the original windows that were in this house when my parents purchased it brand new in 1964. The new windows should reduce outside noise and much of the dust that blows in. Then the following week new baseboards throughput the entire house and new flooring will be installed. We have been living on the bare cement foundation the past 20 months that we have lived here. Mr. Fun thinks it’s fine; I think it’s hideous! The holes where the former carpet tack strips used to be are quite visible and the drywall has rips in the material near the floor from the old baseboards being torn-off.

Two years ago flooring seemed much more expensive than staining the cement and our funds were dwindling as we waited for our big house to sell. With hindsight, which is always 20/20, we should have just bought flooring. The only bonus that I do recognize is that I know after 20 months of living here, I do not want hard floors. We are having carpet installed. We have learned from experience to purchase the best carpet pad and less expensive carpet. The pad makes all the difference. Younger people tell me, “Oh carpet is so dirty!” Well folks, so is hard floor. They all need to be cleaned all the time (especially with 3 pups in the house). I am looking for good advice on a “robot” vacuum cleaner and what to buy so the carpet can be cleaned a lot without me spending hours doing it.

Well, this is entirely too wordy. This is my life’s journal, so 5 years from now I will be glad that I wrote the details.
